Change is hard at first, messy in the middle, and gorgeous at the end. These lines from a Management Expert generally inspire me but seemed to fall short of my enthusiasm when I first started playing with the idea of making a home of my house through loft conversion. The reason was simple: it seemed too huge a project for me to handle alone.
Efficient Space Utilization
As an artist and creative person I wanted my own studio space; a few trunks and stacked up boxes in the loft made me feel guilty and I felt the space could be utilized better. I decided to research the cost of a loft conversion, to make more efficient use of the space.
Loft Conversion Designs & Lighting: Options Galore
So as I started sifting through some loft conversion designs like Dormer Conversion, Hip-to-Gable Conversion, Mansard Conversion… And yes, the first obstacle that I had (which was more likely ‘fear of the unknown’) melted away when I got in touch with LMB Group.Having discussed what I wanted to achieve with one of their surveyor’s, and their advice on the best use of the space and the budget I had; I decided to have a dormer style loft conversion. With a Juliette balcony and doors at the rear and Velux windows at the front; the room is flooded with natural light and being able to open the patio doors in the summer gives the room a beautiful open feel.
A Touch of Expertise
The Designer from LMB Group had suggested numerous lighting solutions, including the placement of a mirror (I got lucky with an antique mirror which I chanced upon, at a garage sale) on the wall opposite the window, which reflects even more light into the room, even on the dullest of days! With the all the natural light in the room, my eyes do not tire easily despite the concentration required for painting. I was more than pleased with the end result—standing in front of my easel and painting a subject in the peaceful and quiet haven of my personal space.
I must confess that this experience once again reiterated that if you wait until you’re ready, you’ll be waiting for the rest of your life! So, I thought I’d share with you that though I did lose some wasted space, I gained a more soulful space…
