Things have changed a great deal over time. Going back to where we started, there were only a few of us here, including one apprentice – who is still here! We have had a lot of growth since then, with people in specific roles, which have pushed the business forward to where we are now.

The industry has changed a lot too. Back in the day, all the plans were hand-drawn. The technology was vastly different. Even the tools we used have been upgraded – there were no nail guns etc. – so even the basics took much longer than they do now.
Definitely. Loft conversions have always been our primary focus, but in the last 7 to 8 years, there has been an upwards trend. Plus, with a loft conversion, you can expect to add between 15 to 20% extra value to your property, so that is something that really appeals to people.
The impact of the pandemic and the work from home mandate has had a huge effect, so we needed to adapt quickly to the challenges that came with the increase in demand. These changes included taking on more staff to help, but more than anything, we just had to make sure we were organised.
We get enquiries from various sized households, but I would say we work mostly with families – people with children who have put down roots and do not want the upheaval of moving home and changing schools etc. We are also increasingly seeing multiple generations under one roof, who want to maximise all the space they have.

Due to the amount of space available in the loft, the area will often be transformed into a bedroom with an on-suite. This change often stems from the need for a home office. So, what usually happens is that people will have a switch around, turning an original bedroom into an office.

People usually have an idea of what they want and might get ideas from places such as Pinterest, we just need to ensure it is feasible for the property type, so we can meet everyone’s expectations.

Sustainability is very important to us as a business and as a recognised brand. We have been in the industry for many years, so there is certainly a responsibility to lead by example.
I oversee everything here from sales, project management and procurement of supplies. I think as I’ve been in the business for so long now, I understand the different elements of what works and what doesn’t, so the team know they can come to me for advice whenever they need it and feel confident doing so.

We have been around a long time, so we are a widely recognised and trusted name. We always back up what we say and are also part of a deposit protection scheme, so any risk is minimised.

We also have a fully staffed office which I think is quite rare nowadays. Everyone has a set role and each client has their own point of contact. We encourage anyone interested in our services to speak to previous customers to give them peace of mind they are in safe hands with us.

In 2021 we were awarded Charted Building Company status by The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), which was a proud moment for me. We are expecting even more growth in 2022. We also have some internal projects in the pipeline – so it’s an exciting time to be part of LMB Group.
